The So Danca CH57 Connie Character Shoe brings together a polished 2.5" stage heel with the softer movement of a suede sole and beautifully supple leather upper. Add a secure T-strap, clever elastic gussets and plenty of cushioning, and you have a character shoe designed to feel as good in rehearsal as it looks under the lights.

So Danca CH57 Character Shoe Personality

Confident • Flexible • Secure • Stage-Savvy

CH57 feels like a character shoe made for dancers who already know they're going to put it to work. The classic T-strap gives it that unmistakable theatrical look, while the suede sole and supple leather make the experience underneath considerably more fluid. Black is timeless and wonderfully stage-ready; Tan keeps the line softer and more understated through the leg.

So Danca CH57 Connie T-Strap Character Shoes - Design & Performance

CH57 sits at a versatile 2.5" heel height, creating a beautifully defined stage line without moving all the way into a 3" professional heel. The tapered heel keeps the silhouette elegant, while the T-strap construction wraps securely through the centre of the foot and around the ankle.

The upper is made from smooth genuine leather, giving CH57 a more supple feel that gradually becomes increasingly personal to the dancer with wear. Elasticated gussets positioned around the metatarsals allow extra movement through the forefoot while helping the shoe remain close to the foot when rising onto relevé.

Underneath, a full suede sole changes the character of the shoe completely. Rather than the firmer response of a traditional leather sole, suede creates a controlled balance between grip and glide, making turns and travelling choreography feel smoother. A cushioned interior and additional arch padding complete a shoe designed for dancers spending serious time in rehearsal, class and performance.

Dance World Notes

T-strap or classic instep strap?
Mostly, this comes down to what you like to dance in and the look you prefer. But a T-strap does create a lovely wrapped feeling through the centre of the foot, which many dancers find reassuring in faster choreography. And aesthetically? It's pure musical theatre, there's a reason this silhouette never really disappears.

Here's where suede gets interesting.
CH57 and CH62 are both 2.5" character shoes, but they shouldn't feel identical. CH62 gives you the firmer, more traditional response of leather underfoot; CH57 uses suede, creating more controlled glide through turns and pivots. Same heel height, quite different on the floor.

The little gussets are cleverer than they look.
Those elastic sections around the metatarsals aren't simply there for comfort. They allow the forefoot to move while helping the upper stay closer to the foot when you rise onto relevé. It's a small construction detail, but exactly the sort of thing you start appreciating several hours into rehearsal.

A useful shoe beyond the stage.
Although CH57 is very much at home in musical theatre and character work, the suede sole also makes it worth considering for Ballroom practice or social dancing. If you'd rather have a beautifully plain leather shoe than a traditional sparkly Ballroom style, this can be a very practical crossover option.
